
Human Trafficking is a multi-faceted phenomenon involving stakeholders at institutional and commercial levels and is assisted by social and economic conditions prevalent in society. A primary driving force behind human trafficking is poverty, inadequate education and lack of employment.
According to UNICEF, as many as 400,000 children and young women are annually trafficked between and beyond African borders into commercial exploitation. Countries in Southern Africa serve as transit and source countries for human trafficking, while South Africa is the major destination country.
